Intent of the Competition

1000 WORDS or LESS wishes to provide an opportunity for amateur and professional writers to demonstrate and showcase their craft and creative skill in the shorter story genre.  One entry will be selected for a $1,000 cash award.  $100 cash prizes will be available for up to 5 other entries.  Prizes will be paid in Australian dollars (AUD).  Approximately 50 entries will be selected for publication to capture the creativity, inspiration, ideas and thoughts of a diverse range of writers and provide a permanent published record of contemporary, past or futuristic ideas or themes.  The author will retain copyright of their own work.

The entrant may choose any subject, theme, idea or inspiration.  All eligible and valid entries will be read and reviewed.  Additional guest judge/s may be appointed to assist with the final judging.  The judge/s decision will be final and no correspondence or negotiation will be entered into or considered.  Judge/s will be representative of a broad cross-section of people to ensure a wider selection of entries receive awards based on creative merit as well as appeal, popularity, interest and engagement.
